Field trip to Rhythu Bazar

The students of class IV and V of Orchids –the International School paid a visit to the Model Rythu Bazaar, Kukatpally on Friday, 10th February, 2012.
Students were divided into groups. Each group consisted of four children. Before reaching the bazaar,   they had made lists of the ingredients, the   vegetables and fruits which are needed for the preparation of fruit salad. Later, they prepared fruit salad and lemonade in the school.
Students learnt the art of bargaining, selecting and buying vegetables. This was correlated with their Mathematical concepts- Cost Price, Selling Price and    Profit and loss.
They were aware of the different climates, soils and regions where the fruits and vegetables are grown and their affordable prices. They understood their nutritional values and their significance in health care. The practical experience was well connected with their theoretical study.
The trip gave an exposure to the students to describe the fruits and vegetables, their colours and shapes with adjectives like soft, sour, sweet etc. They learnt to use nouns like strawberry, brinjal with the names of the fruits and vegetables and the surroundings of the place.
The trip was very interesting and educative. Everyone participated and enjoyed the trip.
