Academic Fair ‘Showcase’ (20/10/12)

Academic Fair ‘Showcase’ was organized in Orchids-The International School on 20.10.12. To start with, ‘Shaan-e-Awadh’ attempted to capture the essence of Lucknow in the students’ lobby. ‘The Rumi Darwaza’ the imposing gateway in Lucknow, opened the doors to the Academic Fair. Varieties of work of Chickenkari- Shadow, Murri, Tapchi along with Zardosi were exhibited. Antique furniture and crockery was also for display. Marvellous Moghal art on ‘Bhojpatre’ adorned the glasses. Shatranj players were blissfully engrossed in their play demanding all concentration. The special delicacies of Lucknow enticed the visitors to have a taste of the land. A PowerPoint presentation informed all that we need to know of Lucknow, one of the most attractive tourist places. The Kathak form of dance mesmerized the audience.

The junior classes beginning with PP1 – class III showcased fruits and vegetables, community helpers, festivals of Andhra Pradesh, animal and plant kingdom and different seasons. Classes of IV and V together presented working models of human body systems and banking system clubbed with basic concepts of Mathematics. The junior wing had separate focus given to English, French, Hindi, Telugu, Science and Social. Art projected ‘Best out of Waste’ and fashion trends. The Senior Wing had marvellous exhibits of Science, Social, Math and Rubik’s cube. Languages English, French, Hindi and Telugu presented skits, characterizations, dance and narration along with models. All the students gave their best which made their work amazing.

The entire school gained a lot of experience through participation in the Academic Fair which, certainly, is very important to the educational development. The students identified their interests and skills, polished their abilities and extended their educational experience of the classroom. The projects encouraged students to design and implement, promote analytical skills and foster creativity. As a team working for a common cause, they learnt to cooperate with parents, teachers and their peers. Their combined efforts contributed to the design, implementation and success of ‘Showcase’ of Orchids. Mr. Gurunadkarni, chief guest for the occasion congratulated the students and staff members for the excellent exhibits.


Exhibition of paintings by the students, art teacher Mr. Santosh and our Principal Mrs Mona Mehdi, formed a special attraction of the day.

Theme: Karnataka - The Land of Gold



Class VA was on duty from 8th October 2012 to 12th October 2012. Theme given was- Karnataka.
1stday: Students presented the theme by giving an introduction to the state. The capital city was introduced along with other neighbouring states. Students were dressed up to represent each state.
2ndday: Students presented an act based on how Karnataka got its capital city named Bengaluru.
3rdday: Students depicted the most famous Mysore Dasara.
4thday: PowerPoint presentation on culture and tourism of Karnataka.
5thday: Students dressed themselves as tigers to perform tiger dance which is one of the folk dances of the state.
Throughout the thematic assembly enthusiasm, commitment, eagerness, helping nature and cooperation were observed among the students. The assembly acted as a platform for the students to let go their stage fear and build up confidence to perform.

Vegetable Printing (12/10/12)

Printmaking allows kids to try out lots of different techniques and to see cause and effect in action more dramatically than with simply painting or drawing .Using fruits and vegetables to make creative and interesting images on paper brought excitement in students.
Seeing the interest of students, Orchids – The International School conducted vegetable printing competition on 12.10.12 for classes I-V. Children made stamps or moulds using vegetables like potato, carrot, turnip, lady’s finger etc. and used different colours to make their interesting figures.
This competition brought forth creativity and inherent talents of students.

ONE MINUTE GAME (5/10/12)



Sports, games and competitions bring a lot of fun to the students. They also nurture qualities of sportsmanship, honesty and integrity. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. They bring out their inherent talent. In a way they help the students to develop decision making skills.
We, at Orchids, conducted one minute game for the students of classes Nursery to V on 05/10/12. The students exhibited their talents in one minute. Our students truly enjoyed this moment a lot. Entertainment was packed with competition.

Theme: Arunachal Pradesh - The Land of the Rising sun



The theme assembly for grade 5B was Arunachal Pradesh- The land of the rising sun during the 23rd week.
On the first day of the theme assembly the students of grade 5B depicted the rising of the sun with the background music of early morning bird chirps and introduced the neighbouring states and countries which border Arunachal Pradesh. They also spoke about the importance of World Habitat Day.
On the second day students performed a graceful tribal dance and also spoke about the World Solidarity Day.
They concluded the theme assembly on the third day by showing a presentation on the tourism of Arunachal Pradesh.
